According to the Rome Statute Apartheid is a crime against humanity. So is Israel an apartheid state or not? B'Tselem, an Israeli NGO, had confirmed this as early as 2021.
»Today, awareness of the nature of the occupation is already much more widespread and I am sure that in a few years the word »apartheid« will automatically be associated with the State of Israel, as it was in the past with South Africa.«, these are the words of Francesca Albanese in her new Book: »When The World Sleeps―Stories, Words, And Wounds of Palestine«. And there is no doubt that she is absolutely right. Israel is an apartheid state!
But this is not something that has only started today or since October 8, 2023. It has been this way ever since Israel occupied territories—that is, foreign land—in violation of international law, territories that do not belong to Israel according to the 1947 UN Partition Plan for Palestine. At least since the so-called “Six-Day War” of 1967, the State of Israel has behaved as if it held supremacy in the region over the Palestinians. Apartheid has thus been the order of the day there for nearly 60 years now—part of everyday life, so to speak. In January 2021, B’Tselem published a high-impact report titled: »A regime of Jewish supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This Is Apartheid.« The original report is available for download below. Under the heading »Divide, separate, rule«, B’Tselem provides an impressive analysis of Israel’s apartheid in the region.
